This meeting was good for finding out about funding streams. Firstly our hosts HLF updated us on the launch of their ‘First World War: then and now grants programme and highlighting how it might be relevant to our work. We also heard from Cultural and Creative Skills and their £15m fund from Arts Council England, to support the creation of traineeships, formal apprenticeship and paid internship opportunities for young unemployed people aged 16-24 and wishing to pursue a career in the arts and cultural sector.
We also had an update on the resources already in the Participation portal (part of the Arts Council England funded Supporting Practice in Participation. As part of this work Sian from the British Museum attended two meetings (Bristol and Liverpool) to talk about participatory practice which received a positive response.
We discussed possible DHG Business models and how to move towards a fee paying and a more participatory organisation. It was heartening to have so many good suggestions and offers of help to share responsibility in moving DHG on to become a UK wide professional network.
